Julie and Veronica are featured in the Greater Manchester Chamber magazine
Julie Finch (Axon Birch Ltd) and Veronica Robinson (Frederic Robinson Ltd) talk about how their Chamber membership has benefited them.
Julie Finch and Veronica Robinson got to know each other through working together on the Stockport Local Chamber Council. Recently Julie’s company AxonBirch revamped the website of Veronica’s family company, Stockport-based brewer Frederic Robinson Limited. Julie said: “We’re both Local Chamber Council (LCC) members and attend the Stockport Breakfast Club.
“Having been on the LCC together we understood how the other worked in business before we started to work on the website, which was invaluable.”
Veronica said: “We’re proof that getting involved in the Chamber can really benefit your business. You have to give your time, but you can get something very beneficial back in return.”
Robinson’s Unicorn Brewery is a Stockport landmark. The company was established in 1838. Today it is one of the largest regional brewers in the UK and is run by the fifth and sixth generations of the Robinson family. The company continues to expand and develop while still using traditional brewing methods.
Robinson’s has an estate of over 400 pubs stretching from northern Cumbria through the Lake District down to North Wales, Cheshire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire. Having extended its wholesale, free trade and off-trade activity and set up a state of the art bottling plant, it is well placed to continue its success story in the future.
Tours of the brewery are a firm favourite with locals and tourists alike. Visitors get to learn about each part of the brewing process, taste the various malts and discover the meaning of brewer’s terms like mashing and wort, and ends with the chance to sample some of Robinson’s beers and purchase souvenirs of the visit.
Although Cheadle Hulme-based AxonBirch is a relative youngster compared with Robinson’s, it has built a strong reputation. The software development firm specialises in providing databases, bespoke web applications and e-commerce solutions for small to medium-sized companies.
AxonBirch’s other clients include the Trafford Children and Young People’s Service, child photography specialists The Nursery Programme and Manchester based film and TV production company Sumners.
