Meet The Team
Here at Axon Birch, we aren't the stereotypically "geeky" people you may be imagining. We all have lives away from computers as well. So these are the fun, friendly people behind the creations...
Julie - Managing Director
As well as managing Axon Birch, Julie is passionate about her faith, her two wonderful teenage children and keeping fit. Finding the right 'work life' balance is often a challenge and where possible, she enjoys taking time out to go hill walking, especially in the Lake District; Peak District and Snowdonia. Spending time with family and close friends, sharing good food and wine - often accompanied by heated debate (!) - is also a joy.
Chris - Technical Director
Chris is passionate about technology and is always learning so he can keep ahead of the constantly changing technology landscape. Like Julie, running the business doesn't leave much free time, so when he doesn't have his nose pressed to a computer screen, he plays football on Monday nights and enjoys hill walking and spending time with family and friends. His hobbies are playing the piano & writing music and photography.
James - Software Developer
James likes to go out at the weekend (not on "school nights" anymore as the next morning is too
hard!). He is a big football fan supporting the only team in Manchester (United). He also plays football
in a local 5-a-side league. Recently graduated from Manchester Met Uni, he is now embarking on this whole career thing and is desperately missing waking up at midday to Neighbours and pasta for breakfast! James also maintains a development blog.
Martin - Programmer
Martin is a student at Manchester Metropolitan University currently doing his placement year at Axon Birch. Martin is a keen sports person who plays basketball (for the university team...wohoo GO METS!!) and football (casually) among many others. Unlike James, he doesn't mind going out on "school nights" because he believes it makes him a stronger person getting up in the morning!
Lewis - Network Engineer
Lewis has always had an interest in networks and is currently studying for the final year of his degree at De Montfort University. He sometimes likes to relax while listening to some music, or exercise the little grey cells with a strategy game. Lewis is passionate about the more unusual and extreme sports, he often goes rock climbing with friends or enjoys SCUBA diving in warmer climates. Lewis participates in the networking and the Open Source communities by helping others and contributing to the FreeBSD project; he finds this quite rewarding but it unfortunately leaves him with little spare time.
Amber - Website Designer
Amber is a multimedia designer who loves all things bright and beautiful. She's traditionally trained and has a fine arts background having attended arts foundation college. You can see her art and webdesign at: www.spek.co.uk/amber/. She has 10 years experience in webdesign and has worked in 4 studios in Manchester. She has a passion for Russia and lived in St Petersburg for a year as part of her degree at Manchester University. Amber has two pesky, wonderful children who constantly keep her on her toes (or tread on them) and they share a love of children's book illustrators such as: "Axel Scheffler" "Jan Pienkowski" and "Marc Boutavant". Her favourite thing in the world to do is sleep (a lot more).
Peter - Sales Manager
Peter has worked in the field of Sales and Marketing for the past 10 years. He enjoys meeting new people and forging new relationships from scratch. When Peter is not working he enjoys family life and an occasional cycle through the peak district.
Deborah - Marketing Administrator
Deborah, who is in her third year studying Marketing Management at Manchester Metropolitan University, is doing a placement year at Axon Birch. In her spare time (which is now limited due to early morning starts!) she enjoys going out for dinner, going to bars, the cinema, the theatre or shopping!
